Anton Bilchik Uses Social Media to Discuss Cancer

I am Anton Bilchik MD. As one of the nation’s leading cancer surgeons, I am also leading physicians into the new realm of social media. So far, many doctors have seemed reluctant to join me in an online conversation. In a 2012 survey of physicians, only 12.9 percent of physicians said they wrote a blog. I not only write blogs regularly, I am also active on Twitter and Facebook.

In addition to a successful cancer surgery practice, I have an active social media life. I blog about cancer on my website, AntonBilchikMD.com, hold the Twitter handle @DrAntonBichik, and have an active Facebook account.

I use these accounts to provide useful, timely information about cancer and cancer research, in terms everyone can understand. Some of my tweets, posts and blogs are about cancer news and breakthroughs, while others are general information about cancer.

Social media platforms provide doctors and patients with a place to teach and learn. They also create a space where people can talk about cancer. Two cancer survivors, @jodyms and @stales, created the Breast Cancer Social Media community on Twitter, using the hashtag and acronym #bcsm. I use Twitter to highlight recent cancer treatment breakthroughs and personal stories.

Like others, I use blogs to provide more personal and detailed information about cancer care. Each blog is short, easy to understand and packed with information. I also keep an active Facebook page, filling it with links to interesting and often inspiring stories about cancer.

Check out me out on my blog, Twitter, and Facebook accounts. Just click on the above links or perform a search for Anton Bilchik to find me.
