Prostate Cancer Information for Patients and Families

Prostate cancer is rapidly becoming one of the most prevalent types of cancer, with more than 238,000 new cases in the United States in 2013. Dr. Anton Bilchik MD, one of the nation’s top cancer surgeons, understands how prostate cancer progresses in the body and can offer you the latest in treatments to beat this type of cancer.

Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer found in men. It progresses more slowly than other types of cancers, and it is very treatable. You and your doctor can work together to create a treatment plan that is right for you. Make sure you ask your physician any questions you might have about your diagnosis or treatment plan.

Remember early detection is the key to stopping cancer. Unfortunately there are no early warning signs of prostate cancer. Frequent exams are your best bet for obtaining an early diagnosis. You should see a doctor if you begin to experience a frequent need to urinate, difficulty starting or stopping urination, painful or burning during urination, or blood in your urine.

All men over the age of 30 should have a prostate exam. If you have a family history of prostate cancer, be sure to discuss this with your family doctor. Even if you don’t have a family history of prostate cancer, you should still talk with your doctor about preventative maintenance.

Dr. Anton Bilchik MD is a leading expert on prostate cancer, and you can get more information about cancer treatments, symptoms and support through his blog and social media accounts.
