Kelly Clarkson Waited a Week to Remove Her Appendix

Dr. Anton Bilchik was recently interviewed for an article on Prevention about Kelly Clarkson’s decision to wait a week after a diagnosis of appendicitis before having her appendix removed. Dr. Bilchik explains that Kelly’s treatment choice is out of the ordinary:

“The standard of care is to have the appendix removed after diagnosis,” says Anton Bilchik, MD, PhD, professor of surgery and chief of medicine at John Wayne Cancer Institute at Providence Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, Calif. “It is a little unusual to wait on it.”
